Story Circle Business News

Meetings: Meeting held on Wednesday April 20 - Kate Dudding facilitator
Stories told -
Kate Dudding – Good Luck & Gifts - an original historical story
Micki Groper - The Magic Awongalema Tree -- an African folk tales
Adam Hoffman - The Wooden Clog-Maker and the King's Daughter - a French folk tale
Joan Cousins - Hiding and Seeking - a personal story
Listener – Sandy Schuman
The roundtable was on handling awkward situations during a storytelling program. Here are some tips Sandy shared re: facilitating a meeting when something unexpected happens:
1. When you don't know what to do, say so. This is not a loss of control -- you never were in control.
2. You can ask, "Does anyone have a suggestion?" This acknowledges and shares the awkwardness.
3. If you get one complaint, ask if there are others. The seemingly lone complainer usually isn't.
4. Use gentle humor.
5. Always remember -- who do I have to take care of in this situation?
Meeting held on Tuesday May 17– see report in Aug/Sept Talespinner.

Question of the Month

I was intrigued by the recent discussion on the “Storytell” list serve.  The question asked was: Are artists liars? What do you think?  Let me know and I will print the answers in the Aug/Sept Talespinner. E-mail your answers to cbnolou@yahoo.com.

The Dreamer awakes
The shadow goes by
The tale I have told you,
That tale is a lie.
But listen to me,
Bright maiden, proud youth:
The tale is a lie;
What it tells is the truth.
--Traditional folktale ending
